OpenJAUS is a Free Open Source Software implementation of the Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems. It includes all of the software and sample code that you need to JAUS enable a robot immediately.

OpenJAUS is stable, secure, and mature, making it highly suitable for use in military-grade unmanned systems. With JAUS being an open specification, any implementation of JAUS can only be as secure as the specification dictates. With that said, much care was taken in the development of OpenJAUS to protect it from common forms of security exploits.

OpenJAUS also aids military-grade unmanned systems by providing a well-documented component interface that can be implemented by any vendor, making it possible to mix software components from different vendors on a single system. The end result is that vendor lock-in is prevented, since any component designed according to the OpenJAUS Node Manager Interface can be swapped with one from a different vendor. Even the OpenJAUS Node Manager could be swapped with an alternative implementation, without affecting the components.

Yet another advantage to OpenJAUS for military-grade unmanned systems is that a common core implementation results in far fewer non-compliances found at integration-time, preventing costly integration delays, and enabling effective use of components from different vendors.

OpenJAUS originated as the of libraries and applications developed at the University of Florida for Team CIMAR's entry in the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge. It is now maintained, hosted and led by Nomadio, Inc.
